It's Monday, and it's time for another round of Friend Makin'! This week's FMM is hosted by Shawn @ Seriously.
If you're stopping by to get in on some of the FMM action, WELCOME! I'm so glad you're here! For the Poodles (and Moodles,) read up on my plans, and then let me know what yours are! Where are you going for the 4th? What are your traditions? I'd love to hear all about it!
Now, on with the Friend Makin'!
Shawn's wondering what we're doing for The 4th! She's gave us some questions and asked that we share about our plans, traditions, and other fun ideas for this year's Independence Day celebrations. Her questions went a little something like this....
What are you doing this July 4th?
This weekend is one I've been counting down towards for the past 3 months! Since Sparky gave us the day off on Friday I'll be boutique shopping with some girlfriends during the day. Rachel is crashing at my place Friday night so we can get up bright and shiny early on Saturday morning and drive up to this great little B&B about an hour from my place. Saturday night is when the fun starts...you see, Rachel and I will be attending a WRCA (Working Ranch Cowboy Association) Rodeo! These boys aren't weekend warriors -- accountants that strap on spurs and chaps and ride a bull once a week -- they're the real deal. Be still my heart!
What is your favorite dish to pass when attending a 4th of July party or summer barbecue?
If we stay home we're all about the typical Summer foods! One year we served ribs, corn on the cob, and watermelon...not a plate or fork in sight. We all ate bent over our knees in our lawn chairs...and it was fantastic!
Do you have any July 4th traditions?
When we were younger my Mom would give us each $20 and send us to the fireworks tent. We would spend the afternoon shooting off fireworks in the yard, and the evening watching the show in a little town 30 minutes from where we lived.
Share your favorite July 4th picture.
One of the traditions in the family after the rodeo is over is to spend Sunday sightseeing in Council Grove, and eating lunch at The Hays House. This picture was taken one Sunday, 3 years ago, on our excursion. It's Mandy, me, and Adam in a cave that was home to a monk in the 1800s. Seriously! :)

That does it for this week's FMM! Be sure to visit Shawn at Seriously for more FMM fun!

I cant wait for the 4th..I'm gonna make my flag cake and go see fireworks! :)
Oh I loved buying fireworks when I was little, they all looked so pretty!
I'm so excited about the 4th of July! I really don't have any exciting plans, but I am going to be with Big Kiddo and just relax on Friday. Sounds like you and your friend have fantastic plans! Enjoy the short week and weekend ahead!
Aww the $th of July! I am going back to a tradition we did when I was a teenager! We are going to celebrate with my dad's side of the family in Tulsa. But I will have my three teenaged nieces with us!
When I was in my twenties, my brother would throw a huge 4th party and grill and lots and lots of fireworks. I miss that!
Ha! You love cowboys! lol.
Love that picture! You're so cute. Love the story about the monk cave. How cool!!
That's us too, the simple life. Some sloppy food, family, and the fireworks!! Thanks for sharing!!
Love all of your answers! I am not a big 4th of July girl, so we are still trying to make some plans! Happy Monday!
SOunds like you will have a fabulous time. We are headed to Colorado to visit my baby girl, her husband and their 2 little boys. He is working a pipeline there right now and so I haven't seen them in a month!
In Him,
Beth
Love your answers! I can't wait for the 4th...I'll just be spending it with friends & family! :)
So fun!
Great description of the utensil free BBQ. It all sounds so fun! (Question: what is a snorg...?)
Be still my heart, too! I love cowboys! Have fun!
Happy FMM!
Sounds like you have fun plans for the 4th!! Can't wait to hear all about the WRCA Rodeo!!! Make sure & take pictures!
Happy 4th!!
~Becca
Ribs, corn on the cob, and watermelon?!? YUM YUM YUM! Can I come over next time y'all have a get-together? :o)
That is the ONLY way to eat on 4th of July! :) Hope you have a great one!
How fun! Wish I was going boutique shopping ;) Sounds like you have some wonderful plans!
Sounds like a fantastic celebration! Can't wait to hear all about the rodeo!
happy 4th!
What a fun way to spend the fourth. I love your fourth meal all bent over the table and chowing down. That is also a great picture of the family.
This year we are spending the fourth in Colorado, we will fly in Saturday and catch the fireworks in the mountains.
Have a safe and fun fourth of July.
This is the first 4th of July in about 10 years that I haven't worked the fireworks stand. I have no idea what to do. We have been invited over to some friends house after church.
It is strange to us to have free time.
Sounds like so much fun! And now I'm hungry for ribs and corn on the cob!
I do love the rodeo!
That sounds like the perfect kind of celebration. i love your picture and your menu...where's the potato salad though? :)
Your husband (in your sidebar) looks vaguely familiar.
:)
Happy 4th!
How nice of your mom to give you guys 20 dollars! I bet that was the highlight of the day to go and pick out your own fireworks!
Hope you have a great 4th of July!
sounds like fun! thanks for stopping by my blog SITSta :)
Sounds like a great weekend! Have a nice 4th!
Stopping by from SITS to say HI!
Sounds like great weekend plans!
Hello~thankyou for stopping by my blog. Nice to meet you:) Your horses are beautiful. I haven't ridden in years....would love to live in the country but I guess I'll have to be happy for the time being with the CA beaches which I really do love.
Ok so I'm once again playing catch up LOL!! Love the picture of you guys!! It sounds like you will have have blast on the 4th!! Wish I could go!!! Hope your heart can handle all of that *ah-hm* Cowboy action!!
That Cowboy stuff is soooo funny! I'm married to an accountant that straps on spurs every day to team rope! We have our own ranch rodeo every one in a while! Have fun!
Nothin like gettin down and dirty for some ribs and corn on the cob! Your 4th of July sounds much more fun than mine!
I would like to have some celebration like a picnic on 4th of july but we have no barbecue grill since we moved here. Any suggestions?
From a SITSta. :)
Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog, thought I'd come on over and say "hello." I like your family tradition of doing some sightseeing! Love the picture.
@Vivienne: Snorgs are hard to explain...combine a snuggle, a cuddle, and a snort. See Cuteoverload.com for details. :)
@Heather: Come on over, girl! My family is a little ornery though...just be forewarned!
@Mama-Face: Yeah...you might've seen him a time or two. He does a concert here and there.
@Broken Y: I'm pretty sure your hubby is exempt from my blanket statement towards accountants since y'all actually LIVE in the country and he obviously knows what to do with a horse. :)
@Reviewer 11: Carry-out and a blanket on the ground would get my vote! I don't think a grill is a make-or-break thing when it comes to a picnic! :) Thanks for visiting GM!
Cool idea! If you are not sure, you can rent the movie first, if you like. This movie is clean and very entertaining. Even my brother enjoyed it.
You're very welcome and thank you for visiting my blog. :)
And thank you so much for the idea! I'll do that. :)
Snorgs to you too! Nice to meet you, Lins. Sounds like delightful Holiday plans.
Our family is driving to Oregon on the 4th for a week's vacation.
Greetings from Los Angeles.
Cute blog.
